FARPM Legislative Day in Tallahassee
Thursday April 3, 2008

Besides Property Tax Reform for the state of Florida that would give relief to owners of non-homestead properties, is The Early Lease Termination Bill (Senate Bill 2730/House Bill 1277) that sailed through the House and the Senate last year only to be vetoed by Governor Crist are a couple of issues at the top of our agenda as we visit our representatives this year in Tallahassee.

Property Tax Reform Amendment -

  • January 29, 2008 - State of Florida Voter go to the ballot box
  • If they support the constitutional amendment:
    1. Homestead Exemption would double from $25,000 to $50,000 for most Floridians
    2. Businesses will have a new $25,000 exemption for "tangible personal property"
    3. The annual growth of taxable value for non-homestead properties, such as businesses, rental properties, and second homes, is limited to 10% a year
Early Lease Termination -
  • A tenant friendly bill
  • It gives the tenant notice at the time of entering into the lease the exact sum that would be owed if they chose to break the lease.

With our businesses growing we are surely to exceed the FARPM, Inc. survey conducted last year which it was determined that our members manage approximately 60,000 single family homes with an average monthly rent of $1084.00 and an asset value of over $16 Billion. Stay tuned for the updated survey results.
